About twelve years ago, whilst scouting for locations for Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood, I was trudging up Devils Dyke, near Brighton in the South of England, when I saw a rough little bench, two posts with a plank across them, the kind of thing you see in country parks everywhere. What made me pause as I passed, were two trees who had cleverly arranged themselves to provide a heart shaped space directly above the bench. I only took one picture. Somehow that little bench struck a spark and I started to notice the benches I passed on my travels, I have passed a lot of benches.
